I have had some further thoughts about the bldc component. Currently
it understands encoders and an exhaustive list of 3-wire hall sensor
patterns. It might be useful for it to (bidirectionally) handle the
Fanuc 4-wire system (Red cap?)

Does anyone know where this is documented? I have googled but come up
blank so far.

Background: The purpose of the component is to take motor position
feedback from just about any source and convert it to HAL pins to
drive brushless motors, whether in numerical angle (eg 8i20),
individual 3-phase amplitudes (eg 7i39),  trapezoidal bit patterns
(any number of drives, including smart power modules) or emulated Hall
patterns (many dedicated bldc drives)
