I looked into it, and gave up.
I was hoping to use "slot number" to choose the carousel slot and
"tool number" to choose the tool offsets.
So, the idea was that tools 1 and 2 could both be in slot 1 (gang
tooling) and a lathe toolchanger would align carousel slot 1 for
either tool, but G43 would load the tool table offsets for the correct
tool.
However, it turns out that tools can't share slots, because the slots
are the array index. it would need a change to the tooltable format to
allow completely free allocation of slot numbers and tool numbers, and
that in turn would reduce the number of tools because the tooltable
size is limited by NML message size.

I think this change could be made transparent, so there would be no
change to the actual tool file format, though.
