this is how I understand the situation: zeromq is LGPLv3+ with a static linking exception (whatever that means): http://www.zeromq.org/area:faq#toc0 http://www.zeromq.org/intro:get-the-software http://www.zeromq.org/area:licensing linuxcnc is GPLv2 - some parts are are 'GPLv2 or later' - I understand re-licensing linuxcnc as GPLv3 is not a viable option Assuming the existing project is GPLv2 only, and the to-be-imported code is LGPLv3+, I assume for purposes of combination we'd be in column 1, row 6 of this matrix: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#AllCompatibility which says 'NO' with no way out so thanks to RMS and the FSF djihadis, I can link zeromq with my proprietary code and sell that, but cant integrate it with linuxcnc, which makes exactly zero sense to me I'd love to be corrected on this view I guess I'll post a question over at #zeromq to sense what they think - Michael ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
