My understanding (may be mistaken) is that "machinekit" is the forked project. "machinekit" will never be part of LCNC.
"UBC" is one of the features that has been added to "machinekit". "UBC" or something like it might wind up in LCNC. Some portions of it have already been added by Jeff Epler. Seb or another more active developer can probably elaborate.
