There may be more than one way to skin your rabbit. In one of my very early 2.7 builds that got wiped long ago, I just embedded one of the Linux video programs on a tab (Mplayer or VLC), can't remember. It had some command line options to draw rectangles so the trick was to draw 2 rectangles (at top left and bottom right) that intersected on just one corner to form a cross hair. This become fully contained in the .ini file with no further scripting.
