Thanks everyone! I am now official in a couple of places . nick in IRC is rsteiner, same in cnczone, linuxcnc forum, and the wiki. I have a different ID in github, steinra2002. I don't mind my intro being hijacked as it shows some of the active work areas.
I am an old C hand and I am interested in the motion and cnc language cores as well as the interfaces. I can program in python, but not anywhere close to an expert. My day job I am a systems architect, so you may see me asking many leading questions. I actually have two linuxcnc machines now, a shopmaster eldorado, and just upgraded my blackfoot 4x8 cnc router to linuxcnc. I also have a fagor CNC controller on my Ganesh GMV-3, and there are some features there I would like to see in linuxcnc. But the control panel is what really got me digging into the next levels of linuxcnc. I also have a Shizuka ANS with a 24 position tool changer I want to run in linuxcnc, so will likely be tearing into classic ladder as well. Another item which lead me here was I always use the ISO images and recently found out how dated the current version is. From the thread here I see several things that are active, and some areas which could use help. I would be happy to tear into the wiki and maybe update the development pages a bit to current members and what they are working on help Andy with the ISO build process work on the paraport latency issue which I am just learning about but saw mentioned (RTAI, preempt-rt, etc) work on the document build process build test cases for core components to help verify changes which are merged in maintain any lists of current changes, completed changes, requested changes, issues Really anything which folks feel would be the most beneficial. Thanks! Looks like you have all ready helped by starting a discussion of the way forward - thanks. Usually a new guy has an interest in part of the software and works on it - I started by updating to a new version of classicladder because I was interested in trying c programming. Is there something you are interested in? Do you have a machine or are interested in building one? Documentation is always on going and appreciated - it's one of our biggest strengths IMHO.
