Maybe there is a CAD for Ubuntu? I have used Bobcad for this. Even an old version will work fine. It can take any True-Type font on your system and use that. I hacked up their internal vector font to clean up a couple rough characters, but if you want filled-in fonts, the True-Type ones work nice, they just take longer.
