Gentlemen, If it hasn't been posted yet the solution to my problem (KINDLY pointed out by Chris Radek) was I had left out the '=' sign in the command 'COMP_FILE = joint0.cmp'. Thank you very much Chris. If I wasn't so relieved I would be embarrassed beyond belief. As it is, I am a happy camper. The comp is working. thanks again for all the response Stuart
