Thanks for the replies Jim and Drew. >From the manual: http://www.yaskawa.com/site/dmcontrol.nsf/(DocID)/TKUR-5TALBZ/$File/TOE-C843-7-30.pdf page 140, it looks like the EIA or ISO tape codes are different from plain ASCII, digits 0 through 8 are okay but 9 shows as a different graphic character (using putty.exe). I downloaded the RYM software to give it a try. I guess it's a matter of translating the EIA/ISO bit codes to ASCII/VT100 character bit codes. It looks like RYM may have saved me the effort of writing a converter (if it doesn't cost too much).
