Yes, we were warned, repeatedly.  I have doubts my 200 amp service could do a

Chuckle.  Then I have almost 30 years on you, I was born in 34.  The front 
page pix at <http://gene.homelinux.net:85/gene> is me & the missus, but its 5 
years old & I'm down 20 pounds from then so my face isn't quite as chubby now.  
I need to get rid of another 20 yet. :)  And this hot weather means the beard 
doesn't last much longer, it comes off summers.

I have attached my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, back yours up and put this one in.  
No error messages are generated by loadmodule glx or dri.  The log does fuss 
about the wacom stuff, but when I nuked that, the whole thing died.

Maybe there is some other option missing that disables glx?  I've also 
attached my /var/log/Xorg.0.log so you can compare results.  Bear in mind this 
is on a fairly uptodate Kubuntu-6.06 LTS system.  No idea if this will work on 
a Ubuntu-8.04 LTS.

Good luck, maybe there is a clue in the attachments.
