Gentlemen,

Thanks to all of you for your quick response and excellent information. It 
is a great example of why EMC2 support has such a great reputation.

I built my first cnc router ( 4' x 8') 10 years ago but have just started 
learning EMC2 and converting my cnc machines to it the last few weeks. Up to 
now I have always used software step generators.

Now that you have explained the process, it's limitations and how EMC2 
transmits the step rate information to the hardware step generator it all 
makes sense. I knew the drivers I am using can accept a 250 nsec min width, 
2 MHz max pulse rate but did not understand how EMC2 would handle that.

Thanks again, now I need to do some hardware shopping.
