The Jet Edge pumps use a hydraulic over water cylinder setup that 
reciprocates back and forth.     It is really pretty simple, but massive 
and consequently expensive.

The Jet Edge pumps are very reliable.  Lasting 10's of thousands of 
hours, etc.   A 30-50 hp hydraulic pump is pretty common.    They even 
have diesel engine powered pumps for mobile applications.

Google "Jet Edge" and you can see some of the variety that they offer.  
They even have used and rebuilt pumps, but nothing is very cheap.
