True, occasionally old software is static because it doesn't need
improving. I've never used mailfilter, but have relied on procmail for
all my mail filtering for many years now, and although v3.22 was a
decade old two days ago, I have no reason to change. It works like a
bought one, and the mailing list is quite active, which is all that
matters.

Admittedly, spam is so sparse here that I just maintain a manual
blacklist. If it were a problem, I'd look at spamassassin and its ilk,
I think. It is both unix and  KISS to let one tool do one thing, and do
it well.
