Sorry, apparently I wasn't clear.

Mark is correct, I just want to use the cell phone network to make a 
connection between a PC that is connected to the internet and this 
remote PC running EMC2/Ubuntu Linux 10.04.

The remote EMC2 PC would be on some offroad equipment - hopefully within 
range of a cell phone tower.

I don't actually want to use a cell phone to access the remote EMC2 
equipped PC.

At one time the USB Cell phone modems were very popular but now I am 
seeing a lot more of the Wifi hotspot type devices which is not what I 
am looking for.

I don't need a wifi connection in the middle to add to the 
confusion/complexity.

I'd really like to have a remote desktop connection even if it updates a 
little slowly.
