Anything that ends up in HAL can be tweaked live (without restarting 
LinuxCNC).  This includes PID gains, stepgen timing, etc.  I use "halcmd 
-kf" in a terminal to do this.

Anything that does *not* end up in HAL unfortunately requires a LinuxCNC 
restart to change.
