A fault that has been steadily getting worse or changing apparently at random (in my experience) tends to be mechanical. Electrical problems arising from within the system tend to be either-or. Either it works or it doesn't. ;-) Interference from outside can appear just as random and changing as an internal mechanical fault. Just ask the people at the big dish in Australia who after nearly 30 years *finally* tracked down a random interference to a microwave oven located within the antenna facility. If cleaning doesn't fix it, then look into electrical problems, rather than chasing a problem that appears to be electrical when it could simply be a little dirt in the works. I've run into this on many printers where they get ink fog or toner dust into things where visible or IR light needs to shine through for proper operation. Most often it's a dirty plastic position encoder strip or disk. Clean off the crud and a free "junk" printer works good as new. Glass scales going gaga on a machine? Try cleaning before you replace them for being "faulty". Got a pop-up toaster that no longer pops up? Take it apart and run it through a dishwasher. Yes, I did that and it works great despite being made in the 1960's. I figured since it already didn't work, I couldn't break it. The number of desktop and laptop computers I've "fixed" simply by blowing the dirt out is uncountable. The number I've "fixed" simply by removing a couple of dozen magnetic business cards from the motherboard side of the case is exactly one. That client had no more PC problems after moving his collection to his refrigerator. My point is to make sure that a device is physically clean and unbroken and you may find that was all that was wrong with it. --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ One dashboard for servers and applications across Physical-Virtual-Cloud Widest out-of-the-box monitoring support with 50+ applications Performance metrics, stats and reports that give you Actionable Insights Deep dive visibility with transaction tracing using APM Insight. http://ad.doubleclick.net/ddm/clk/290420510;117567292;y _______________________________________________ Emc-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
