AFAIK Octoprint will not work with Machinekit. I use mobaXterm to connect to BBB via ssh and remotely control and transfer the g-code files. So far I use slic3r, particularly because I want to try out velocity-extrusion - there is a version that provides slightly adjusted g-code for velocity-extrusion specific stuff, like stating extrusion width and layer height right in the g-code file.
