Dave, I open them directly from the NAS. I have a mounted folder set up on the cnc machine pc that points to the NAS folder where i keep the Gcode. I use gmoccapy and I have the shortcut directory pointed to this mounted folder so it is quick to get to my files. I have not had an issue yet with doing it this way.
I think once the file is opened it is run from RAM anyway. So if the file opens it should run the same if it was originally on the network or on the local machine.
