I've bought a couple old dell optiplex's, both desktops that can stand on end, that have run LinuxCNC very well, for under a hundred dollar bill from pcliquidaters.com, who are now showing stuff as low as $55. Plenty of power, good video, and with a $40 64G SSD for a drive, its quite a bit faster than it was with a 2T spinning rust drive in it. Only 64GB doesn't cramp it, df says 29% used. Neither does the only 2GB of ddr2. Works fine. Dual core Pentium D running at 3.4GHz. > My main development PC is a used HP workstation, 12-core Xeon, 64GB > RAM Nvidia GPU for about $550.
