The commercial machines are all XY gantry systems, and of
massively heavy construction.
This Quad QSA-30A weighs 2250 Lbs and the maker somewhat
optimistically rates it at 17000
components/hour. It is supposed to place components with a
3 Sigma repeatability of 0.1 mm.
The vision system is mounted on the head and measures the
alignment of the parts on the three nozzles while the head
moves over the board.
It would be hard to do anything like this with a Delta
scheme, as the errors stack up.
