I would like to react to the following statement:

"As regards the honour killing, it is un-Islamic, as according to Islam,if
some one is blamed for fornication, four witnesses have to be produced.
This is impossible in all situations. Merely talking to some one, known or
unknown, does not qualify killing. It is jealously and needs to be
punished. Even false accusation is punishable according to Islam."

For me, this statement is most important in the present discussion because
related to culture: it shows how the same culture produces diverse
perspectives, and that a perspective allowing oppression can be countered
by another perspective taken from the same "culture", forbidding the same
form of oppression. It shows the 'political' nature of statements related
to culture, and that what we call culture is not fixed, but captured for
specific purposes.

Values belonging to the same cultural set-up could then be used to counter
those which are oppressive in nature.
