I see it a little different. Enigmail is mostly ... well: me, myself and I. Everything depends on me - I'm the single point of failure in Enigmail. That's not sustainable and not reliable. Thunderbird OTOH has stabilized their financial and technical situation, and became a team of about 10 paid developers (not all full-time though). That's something substantially different.
