You've seriously misinterpreted me. My point about the backup files was not
to say that anyone on this list is incompetent or writes bad scripts. My
point is to say that anyone who doesn't know how to use AppleScript also
doesn't know how to prevent AppleScript damage.
I wrote an AppleScript a few years ago that blew out my credit card data in
a private FMP database. Dan posted a script earlier that would blow out the
Entourage calendar. Most people don't even realize that you CAN script for
the Mac, and I suspect that most Mac users don't know how a script works or
what can do.
If someone accidentally modified my script to say "move Entourage user data"
to the trash, it's suddenly becomes VERY dangerous. I imagine the same is
true of your scripts. I don't see how anyone could POSSIBLY do this by
accident, but yes, I have no problem telling people who've never heard of
Script Editor to back up before running scripts.
