A lot of us would love to. But can't. I understand the reasoning behind it. Don't like it, but understand it. More often than not, US HQs make their resellers sign contracts prohibiting them from selling to residents of countries were they have a regional office (US defence export rules not withstanding). If this were allowed then we wouldn' t bother with the regional office, order directly from the HQ and the regional office would not have an opportunity to make an income to employ staff and make their own profits, et cetera. The above also applies if the software publisher has contracted an exclusive distributor in another country. That's why you will see on most reputable on-line resellers sites the wonderful phrase "Available only in the US or Canada". On the odd occasion, Roxio's Toast for example, because there is no regional office or exclusive distributor, they don't care and hence I purchased Toast from Amazon only last month. Oh, and the other reason they may sometimes give you is "different laws in different countries, therefore our hands are tied". This later excuse is, IMHO, more convenient than anything else. It applies more often than not to competitions, which (guess what?) we also don't get to participate in. I don't think we are going to be able to overcome this one in a couple of email dissertations. Short of writing to regional office, or worse, HQ; I' m more than a little cynical about letter writing or phone calls being effective. I believe they just don't care, and if they did we wouldn't be having this conversation.
