The first thing to check is that the Mac can access the MTA (SMTP server)
and store (IMAP server) machines using the names you've specified. Go to
/Applications/Utilities and run Network Utility. In the 'Ping' tab type in
exactly what you typed in for the MTA and store, and hit the Ping button.
If you get back something like "Unknown host Memphis" then your problem is
either:

* DNS is not working

* You don't have the right search domains set for DNS

Try entering Memphis.yourcompany.com in the Ping tab instead (replace with
the real domain name of course) and see if that helps.

If Ping returns several lines like '64 bytes from [address]: icmp_...' then
your machine can access the MTA/store using the address you typed in.

Then you really need to check those proxy configurations. Since port 80 is
for HTTP, I'd be surprised if it was relevant for SMTP connections. But you
can test that by going to the "Port Scan" tab and enter the name of the MTA
machine that worked in Ping, and click "Scan". Get your IT person's
permission before doing that, because it might trigger some security
software running on the server :-)

Cheers,

Chris
