A couple of generic "fixes" that may help, may not:

1. Run "fsck" (File System ChecK). Restart holding Cmd-S, in "single user
mode". You'll see a screenful of text, ending with a message telling you how
to run fsck. Run repeatedly until you get no errors.

2. You said you ran Disk First Aid. I HOPE you mean you ran Disk Utility,
which is the OS X equivalent, which you  should run off the installation CD.
The OS 9 Disk First Aid might not fix a disk properly for OS X.

3. Try running the utility Apple recently released, for free, called "Repair
Privileges". You find it on their download page at www.apple.com.

Sure. Set up a schedule to run your "Send & Receive All" and set the
schedule on a timed basis rather than repeating every so often. It can be
set to run only on certain days at certain times. Uncheck "only if
connected" and check "return to previous state".

In the entourage menu, select "Work Offline" to keep it from dialing in when
you click on a link by accident or read an HTML message with on line images,
etc.
