Sorry; I should have said Mac OS X Hints:

<http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20020425003318304>

The "article" only gives the concept. I can't give you all the details
without booting off my Norton CD, which I don't care to do. But poke around
and you will find some menu option for defining a new profile. That leads
into further dialog boxes, where you can enter new folder types; as he
suggests, enter the path for your OS X system, User, Library, and apps. You
then save that profile; remember where. And (I think) it is best to save it
on a partition you don't plan to be optimizing; I have a scratch partition I
use for odds and ends.

When you run Speed Disk, you then have to go to the Options menu, select
"Add profile" (or something to that effect), and "open" the folder
containing your profile. Speed Disk scans the folder and finds any profiles
there, so you could define additional ones. I just did the one and called it
"OS X". When you have done that, you should see your profile listed in the
profile menu; select it and run your defrag. Basically, what this seems to
do (and I am no expert) is to put the files in the folders you've selected
at the start of the disk for faster access.
