I have the same problem in needing to go lightweight with my reason
being severe arthritis in my hands. Top quality lenses are no longer an
option for me so I have to settle for the best possible compromises.

Will be interested in listmembers answers to your question on the EF
28-80 V USM.

I have also been wondering on EOS lenses in general about comments of
low contrast and poor color saturation.

Many of the Fuji films IIRC (I prefer Kodak) tend to be very contrasty. 

My question to listmembers is whether or not one can specifically say
that a lens itself lacks contrast and good color saturation without
specifying which film(s) a person is using.
