I have a Rebel G (EOS500N in Europe) and a EOS630 (EOS600 in Europe), and I
sold the 28-80 lens that I get with it due to the poor color quality I got
(I know, it could be a bad sample, but...) I got an 50 f/1.8 mk II instead,
it has very light weight, but you loose zoom... I recently got a EF28-70
3.5-4.5 mk II (second hand), and solve the zoom problem, because now I get
very, very nice colors with it even being a zoom lens (much, much better
than my old EF28-80 lens). I have also used an EF28-105 from a friend of
mine, it is also a very nice lens. If I were you I go to the 28-105, not for
the 28-80, and if weight is a big concern, go to the 50 f/1.8 prime, but
it's just my opinion...
