I've to add one more to the list of "why not's"  of Julian...

What about wireless flash?? How do you link this with distance information?
Even the OCSC2 will give you troubles when using only distance info.

And I think one of the beauties of the whole ETTL thing is that it enables
the multiflash, multigroup wireless system.
