Hi all,
A friend of mine recently converted from the FD world to EOS, with an
EOS 300 and a Tamrom 28-200. His main aim are family snaps and holiday
photos.
He traveled to South Africa with his 1-week old equipment and came back
with 12 films, but after development/print, he was quite dissapointed
with the image quality.
The long end of the zoom gives very *VERY* extrange results. It gives
only a "center" of sharpness and outside it, everything becomes
extremely soft to the extreem that some detail is ghosted of lost.
He doesn't know if that is that he has to expect from the lens or if he
should go for a warranty claim.
I'd expect some kind of bad distortion with a lens of such a long range
(I don't trust em) but this is really unacceptable. Those photos can
really make you dizzy.
Those of you who have or had this lens, could share your impressions
about it?
I've uploaded a couple of them, together with details of the corners.
They were take mostly at the recommend "P" exposure that will imply
1/2xx and probably wide open.
You find them here:

I'll discuss your opinions with him afterwards,
Thanks a lot & have a nice weekend,
Gerard.
