If you are referring to C.Fn-7 (unless the firmware in my camera is
buggy), no setting will disable the AF-Assist that occurs while the camera
is hunting in AF. I just tested this on my Elan7 thinking I could disable
that crazy thing once and for all.
Ah well, manual focus without external flash will have to do.
