I seem to recall hearing about someone who had to get theirs repaired twice.
Although the second time, Canon paid for it.  For the record, my EOS 5 was bought
new in May of 1998, and the dial broke about a year ago.  It still works, but
doesn't lock in any postion.  I was aware of the potential problem when I bought the
camera, and treated the dial with kid gloves as a result.  I never turned it off,
and pushed the button anyway, when changing modes.  Now that I have a backup (EOS
10s), I think I'll try the home repair reported by  someone on this list a while
ago.
