The way that I use DEP mode, is as follows: First press, near point. Second press, far point. Third press, camera sets focus and shows apreture. Switch to manual foucus, leaving it as previously set by the camera. Switch to another mode other than DEP, and make sure that at least the apreture displayed previously is used. Shoot. This should work with flash.
