Since I have $$$ invested in EF mount lenses, I would have very little
(read: none) interest in purchasing a set of lenses specifically for a
digital body. To me this would be akin to the desertion of the FD mount for
the EF, morally if not in practice.
The bottom line is that there is nothing to prevent Canon from introducing a
set of, as you termed them, "EF-D" lenses in the manner of Nikons 12-24.
The pros, who have far more invested in lenses than I do, have the 1Ds
available to them, so Canon runs no risk of alienating them. Someone who is
just coming into SLR photography via Canon digitals would have no qualms
about buying lenses aimed at digital multipliers. It's just us non pro guys
with moderately to very extensive sets of EF mount lenses that stand to have
a problem.
