I don't think it is as simple as this. First of all a DVD player can be had
for less then $100 which is no big deal for most people. But replacing not
only a camera body which alone is more then a cheap DVD player but also all
the lenses is quite costly. Development of the later is much more expensive,
too. But there might also be technical issues. Putting more pixels an a
smaller sensor results in big challanges. First of all due to the smaller
pixel size your noise is going to increase. Also imperfection of the lenses
are becoming much more critical as we get down to quite high ppi on the
sensor, etc. For these and additional reasons I guess Canon will rather go
towards full-frame sensors for the majority of their (higher-end) bodies and
possibly add some special wide angle lenses for the other bodies.
