Ken
I went through the same process recently. I settled for the Minolta 5400
which had the best performance as well as the best price on the market. The
new 5000 Nikon has since appeared and should be good, but probably very
expensive. Of the 3, the Canon 4000 is definitely the best value for money -
I used it for a while on loan. The Canon and Nikon 4000 had very similar
image quality in my tests, but the Minolta's higher resolution was obvious
in high magnification. I did not really notice an amazing dynamic range
difference in my tests - a lot could be achieved with some post processing
with scans from any one of them. As far as I know all work in OSX.
