The rudder pedal kits should NEVER have cables running above the floor
boards. I've NEVER seen such an arrangement.

This IS debatable. The advantage of the standard rudder pedal kit (pedals
steer nose wheel) is that you can turn the ailerons into the wind AFTER
touchdown to prevent wing-lift - this isn't a problem in Coupes which have
the tail at the correct height on the ground. The downside is that ground
steering using feet on pedals isn't as accurate as hands on the wheel.

Also, in their autos, people have practiced hundreds of thousands of
repetitions of the trained reflex "need to go left --> turn the wheel
left."
The FIRST reaction of most people in an EMERGENCY is to turn the yoke.
After that, people push the pedal.

Fred Weick observed this trained-reflex in flight tests with other pilots
and so, when he developed his pedal kit, he let the yoke steer the nose
gear. It works fine. The only reported problem with this is you can
steer
SO ACCURATELY and easily on the ground that people sometimes taxi Coupes
so
fast they aren't careful enough and have taxi accidents.

Hi Larry:

A few years back I thought the very same thing. I MUST have rudder pedals.
I was unable to find a Coupe with pedals and went ahead with the purchase.

For about the first 5 or 6 landings my feet would actually tingle and
I had to cross them and put them on the passenger side of the plane. <G>

After that initial learning curve, I no longer worry that much about
whether or not I have pedals.

The Univair pedal kit takes up leg room, the control cables lie on top of
the floor
boards, and the control wheel still controls nose wheel steering. Not a
good
arrangement
in my opinion. Others will probably disagree with me. <G>

Take a ride in your Coupe to be and shoot a few landings preferably in a
cross
wind.

Do get a thorough pre buy by someone who knows the Coupe.

Good luck

Paul
