Had one come loose on a 172. It was like the engine was coming apart.
It never came completely off. Just hung on the side and really shook.

A Skull cap one came off once and if it had not have hit the plane it
would not have been noticed.

The key would be complete separation: If it comes off clean, no
problem. If it hangs on, then shack, rattle and roll.

(Of course if one comes off you must quickly crash to the ground
because the plane was certified with the Spinner and it won't fly
unless all the certified parts are there).
