Meigs Field, in Chicago was closed late Sunday night when heavy
equipment was moved in and portions of the runway were dug up.

Chicago radio station, WLS, this morning reported that the runway was
marked by a lighted "X" during the night and that large X's were cut
into the runway surfaces.

So far there has been no explanation as to the reason, or whether this
signifies a permanent closure of Meigs Field. The "Friends of Meigs
Field" organization is looking into the matter, but has nothing to
report as of yet.

As many of you might know, Chicago mayor Richard Daley has been trying
to close Meigs for a number of years. And just last year an agreement
was reached that would supposedly kept the airport open for at least
another 25 years.

I just got off the phone with the Illinois Governor's office and informed
them I'd hold the entire Democratic party responsible if Meigs is closed.

I told him I'd stop being a switch voter and would vote Straight
republican
forever if he didn't stop Daly.

The Governor's office phone number is: 217-782-6830
