Syd,

Those drag elements don't sound like enough to account for a 47%
increase in fuel consumption. Overly rich mixture on his engine (or
overly lean on yours) or both might account for a big portion of the
difference.

4.25 versus 6.25 is a BIG difference.

Hi Greg,
    Dennis' Coupe has more drag due to two large venturis as opposed to
one small one on mine; landing lights on the gear legs, and I have none;
a bubble windshield and mine is flat; more antennas than mine; and no
nose gear fairing, but I have one. Also, in order to go the same
airspeed with the added drag, he would have to be turning more rpm. I
believe his tachometer reads low, maybe 100 rpm or more. Neither of us
leaned, and he didn't follow directly behind me, so I don't think he was
making a lot of power adjustments. I think the drag is the reason. I
don't know his empty weight, but remember, I was carrying a passenger
and he was not. His carburetor could be set richer too. No, I don't
have an EGT, but have had no problems with valves or oil temps. In
fact, my oil temps were usually about 10 degrees less than Dennis'.
