Ok, so with the policy of GPL to fit less with Etoile, I think it's time
for me to actually say good bye. I wish you guys good luck with the project.

Well,.. we're just practical -- our goal is to, in fine, create a very
loosely-coupled environment, where "applications" could be in fact the
sum of other applications/components. We don't condone proprietary
software, but nonetheless it would be bad to prevent users to run some
applications at all simply if they are proprietary -- beside, there
are other free software licences not compatible with the GPL. In
general the "viral" (I really don't like that terminology) nature of
the GPL is not a problem, and even good -- because applications
are/were monolithics. But for our goal of loosely-coupled
architecture, I fear that the GPL will be too restrictive; at the very
least it's unclear, which is why the FSF is working on the v3 :)

But in the meantime, the LGPL offer the same kind of protection for
the code, without this "viral" part for anything else than the
component itself. So it's much clearer, and that's why we prefer it.
BSD licences of course do not cause any problems either.

It's too bad that you feel you have to quit the project over that, but
I understand your position. I hope I helped clarified our :-/
