Neat idea; I tried it but it didn't work, the status_format command doesn't interpret the %<fmt> command the same as the index_format command, and even that doesn't update without some keyboard activity as far as I can tell. How about something silly like this: ping -i 840 myisp.net >>/dev/null & mutt && fg
