On mine, I get:

Produces on mine:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

Nothing about the ethernet connection.

Looked at Network Manager help and its man file. It's beyond my level
of competence tonight. I'll see if I can become better educated via
Google.

Puppy isn't mission critical for this system. I tried it mainly
because Puppy has succeeded for me in auto-configuring for hardware
when no other distro worked. E.g., the time I had reversed the cabling
of the master and slave hard drives, Puppy managed to boot
nonetheless. That one had me going because Windows booted despite the
problem. Puppy allowed me to diagnosis my screw-up. :-)

 Thanks for the assist, Bob. It feels like we're closing in on the
problem. I think I'll sleep on it and then dial up Google to learn
more about what  NetworkManager wants.
