I dont know about the users of those small scooters and electric bikes, but I frequently see disabled people ask about charging an electric wheelchair or scooter from the car or van. The one suggestion is to use an inverter then the stock charger. Some say this works well, others say them melt the inverter.
Most chair and scooter manfactures use the amperage of the charger to charge the craft in 12 hours. So the size varies with the model and battery size. They all use 24 volts. My idea was, does anyone make or sell a 24 volt charger for a 12 volt car? I know in some radio shack books Ive read as a kid that you can build a voltage doubler. That seems like it would be more efficent then to use an inverter and charger. Havent tried to build one, not sure where to start and the design for 3-12 amps. Seems like this could be useful for someone who uses an EV to get to and from their car. Thanks jeff richmond, va http://www.wheelchairmodifications.org
