Hi Jeff and All
        If you have a non e controlled charger like a
ferro regulated, has just a big cap on another
winding, just use a bridge rect instead of the full
wave diodes to get regulated 24vdc.
     This works with 36vdc or any volt ferro golf cart
type chargers too for 72vdc or twice the volts and 1/2
the amps.
    Put a spdt switch between the - bridge leg, the 
transformer center tap and ground in the center,
common, and you have a dual voltage regulated batt
charger.
