Gm is self insured.  I'm sure that at least part of the reason for this 
is to prevent the EV-1s being salvaged by anybody but them.

Oh yeah, I don't know about where you live but around here the insurance 
companies won't allow you to buy your own totaled vehicle, not even at 
the puiblic auctions.
