Heh. Some people would argue that corporations ~are~ the de facto government of the United States. Never mind ... Seriously, and for the record, I ~do not~ advocate subterfuge for keeping your EV1. The car belongs to GM; they have allowed you to drive it in return for your payment. The term of the arrangement is going to end and you have to give the car back. End of (sad) story. If they want to crush their car (or for that matter sledge-hammer it, drive it off a cliff, or incinerate it), they are within their rights as long as they do these things in a way which is legal and does no public harm. Similarly, if you own a car, you have the right to do whatever you want to it, including modification, as long as you do so in a way which is legal and does no public harm. Suggesting that an EV1 lessee should be able to keep the car because he doesn't want GM to crush it is tantamount to suggesting that GM should have the right to take back the Metro you own free and clear, because they don't want you converting it. I don't thing we want to venture into ~that~ neighborhood. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Want to unsubscribe, stop the EV list mail while you're on vacation, or switch to digest mode?
