Actually, if you select the 80% option, you will find that you would be charging to 80% of 80%. Confusing, I know, but when I asked the engineer about this and the conflicting instructions in the owner's manual, he conceded that the engineers were overruled by the lawyers, on the side of caution, as the batteries were largely an unknown quantity. This despite a lengthy testing process. He agreed that charging the batteries to 70% on a regular basis would cause no harm, but would not give as much satisfaction with range either. He also, agreed that their testing also showed that there was a reasonable argument for allowing owners to charge to an actual 90%, but that the warranty (legal) department would not allow this option, hence the 80%/20% compromise.
