Also, the internal BMS of a 12V battery cannot handle more than 12V unless 
designed to.

I'm also wondering what kind of batteries or cells you purchased. Did 
you buy 12V automotive lithum batteries, meant to be a 1 to 1 
replacement for lead-acid ? If so, I believe they come with a built in

However, and others can correct me here, connecting them in serial to 
give you higher voltage could be problematic. If one battery begins to 
fail sooner than the others it may, for example, develop higher internal 
resistance. That means it will heat up more when the current from the 
rest of the string pushes through. I think that could be a fire risk or, 
at least, cause more rapid deterioration.

My guess is the right way would be to connect them in parallel and then 
use an inverter to convert the output to the voltage you need.
